ANTI-DICTATORSHIP, PEOPLE’S FREEDOM MOVEMENT IN BURMA
Letter of Invitation

The battle of political defiance No.489-"Anti- Dictatorship, People's Freedom Movement" will continue. The civil wars against the ethnic minorities have paused while the army deployments continued. According to some sources, the attack against the KNU and DKBA is imminent. We sincerely doubt it though. We have a reason why.
For USDP government, becoming the chairman of ASEAN is the main gate to mingle in the civilized world and do things business as usual. So, it would do anything including inviting Daw Suu at the Martyrs Day ceremony or sending a minister to talk Daw Suu, to make the world tobelieve that it’s on the right track. In reality, we need to wonder how long it would last making friends between the criminal army generals and Daw Suu, who stand up for the justice. Still, Daw Suu was smart enough to take advantage the situation calling for peace talk, which the regime never wanted to hear. She has earned a luxury to travel in the country gaining tremendous support of the people for the moment, and she’d used it well. She knew that the NLD needs the enormous support of young people in order to get back in the game. She definitely understands how to play a game within the regime’s game.
This is the crunch-time for the USDP government. The whole world has been disappointing it for not releasing the prisoners of conscience in the first place. The ASEAN started to doubt whether the USDP government could do its chairman job making the world to respect. China also commenced to disappoint the USDP government for its failure to quietly put out the civil wars that are hurting their business in Burma. Also, we all have to remember that the United Nations General Assembly is on the way for this year, the next month to be exact. And there in the UNGA, the whole world will question the regime’s representatives, “why the political prisoners weren’t released and why can’t they stop the civil wars” no doubt. Therefore the USDP government must go back to the manual, “delay and defeat” technique heavily employed by Than Shwe in this regard. As a result, any civil war against the ethnic group must be at least stalled up until the end of UNGA. At least a few political prisoners might be released if we got lucky. As long as guys like Kyaw Hsan standing at the podium, none of good things would ever come out for better Burma.
The point we would like to make here is “don’t blink”. The illusion - Thein Sein’s new government might do something good for the people – is just another sugarcoated pill for us to get lost in the wilderness created by Than Shwe in order to maintain the status quo. We can’t effort to fall asleep with his pill. We must get involve in Daw Suu’s initiatives creating a strong “civil society” that will sooner rather than later challenge the social injustices by the regime. The free all political prisoners’ campaign and the signature campaign must be loud and widespread all over the world.
Remember, Thein Sein regime itself is in crisis now both domestically and internationally. As long as we give it a chance to highlight the black-areas to make his case among the international community, our chances to bring democracy in Burma would be slim and dim. We the people of Burma must be alerted and smart in politics at this realm. We must teach ourselves at this point that the victory is within our reach.
For all of us overseas, our repercussion calling for the releases of all the political prisoners globally and effectively must be in effect now. This kind of well organized move could be a spark the awakening of the whole nation to rise up eventually. Their signature campaign is the right move for us to enlarge calling for the international governments and organizations to get involve and how serious we are in this regard as well. Keep in mind, just following up with the protocol on our part alone at this point wouldn’t work. We can’t just follow what our leader’s wish but we have to think it beyond. We have to make our move before the hearing of COI and the general assembly of the UN coming. We have to alert the whole world ahead of the upcoming eruption of upheaval.
In conclusion, we have nothing left to loose but to keep on our fight. Due to the prevailing circumstances, we the people of Burma must fight for the restoration of freedom and democracy in Burma in order to enjoy the real independence of Burma. The first and fundamental step for us to begin is to confront our own fear and to face the reality by all means possible. Keep in mind, the duped regime is set to rule the country no matter what. The fallacy of regime's way to democracy, which will lead the people all the way down to hell, will not solve the country's problem itself as we see it. Even if the regime can manage to repeat Ne Win's rule, the economic downturn, social injustice, human rights violations will lead a social upheaval sooner or later. Make no mistake as Daw Suu had repeatedly said on that if you really want a real and genuine democracy, you might as well put your own effort. Don't wait for somebody else. You are the captain of your soul. We are on our own to fight back the regime. We are the ones who can make up our own history by showing the world that we can achieve the international standard democracy at our own cost. Our courage, determination and unity will be tested in this battle.
Remember, our job as non-violent activists overseas is to let the world knows that the atrocities and social injustices are still going on in Burma, and that is why we keep on doing what we suppose to. Media cooperation and sympathy of our honest and noble struggles are greatly appreciated.
